Documentary film Thabyay: Creative Resistance in Myanmar

I met Gregg during my second “world-trip” backpacking in Rangoon about to board the same flight to Chiang Mai in December 2004, just before the Tsunami hit. We picked rooms at the same guest house and hung out a bit but only for a couple days. Then going south on the same train – Gregg to Bangkok to catch his flight to Manila, whereas I headed to southern Thailand.

The news of the Tsunami came shortly after. Gregg was worried about me, because when we parted, I still wasn’t sure if going to the gulf side or the Andaman side (a critical distinction regarding the Tsunami!). Thanks to internet cafés at the time and my updates, he quickly learned that I was safe and sound on the east side.

Gregg was a very interesting man, right from the start. A musician and very involved with human rights. I remember his strong interest for the Philippines. Over the years we didn´t have much contact, but on the other hand never lost it really. Over the past four years he has been working on a documentary film with his partner at Kirana Productions, the director, Jeanne Hallacy.
When I got an E-Mail about a Go-Fundme Project for his documentary film work on Burma/Myanmar – Kirana Productons I did not hesitate to donate.

The film Thabyay: Creative Resistance in Myanmar

tells the courageous stories of four democracy revolutionaries using creative means to resist the military junta. This film continues the story they began in thei previous project, made during the intense weeks following the 2021 military coup.
