from North to South
Travelling the northern Island was amazing. Now the time had come to explore the southern part of Aotearoa. The Flexipass of my Intercity Bus deal included the Interislander ferry from Wellington to Picton harbour. Due to bad weather (windy & rainy Wellington!!!) I had a bit of a delay. Boarding went all easily, just like being at an airport.
The weather was perfect for a start! The sky was blue, the usuall notoriously turbulent water of the Cook Strait was now calm. I felt like a young kid with ADHD. Running up and down from the Upper Deck to the main Deck, going in- and out all the time. There was soo much to see! The view was breath-taking, the wind felt salty on my face. I was thrilled and full of excitement.

Atlantis Backpackers Picton
For my stay in Picton I had made a reservation at the Atlantis Backpackers. https://www.atlantishostel.co.nz – check it out for more information. Arriving after a magical journey crossing the Cook Strait it couldn’t get any better than this!
A most lovely Barbra Streisand look-alike lady welcomed me. I soon found out, that she was the host, Sheira Hudson. She showed me around as good as she could… as I was hardly able to move! I got so caught up in everything around me. It was as if I had just entered a fairy tale. Alice in wonderland must have felt just like this!

Bob’s Bay
The next morning I still had some time for a short wondering around Picton. It turned out to be a lovely little town. Besides from the harbour there were several short walks to be explored. I decided on visiting Bob’s Bay & Harbour view.
It was an easy walk up, through a lovely forest along the harbour. Some people were kayaking and other’s walking the dog. I loved the charm of this place. Everybody seemed very relaxed and kind.
Sheira had given me a good piece of advice on the way too. “When your legs are getting a divorce, just have some ginger or drink a ginger beer”! So off to get myself a little boost drink for my hikes to come. A last visit to the supermarket to get myself some supplies for my next bustrip to Nelson …. and I was ready to hit the road again.
